Maple Granola

This granola is perfect accompanied by in-season strawberries! The feature ingredient here is (naturally) maple syrup – as a sweetener, maple syrup’s delicate sweetness enhances the robustness of the other granola ingredients. Enjoy this as a topping on yoghurt or served with milk.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups large-flake rolled oats
  • 1 1/3 cup  almonds or pecans , chopped
  • 3/4 cups sunflower seeds
  • 1/3 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2/3 cups Sweet Ontario maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons melted coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup coconut chips (optional)
  • 1/3 cup dried cranberries (optional)
  • 1/3 cup raisins (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F.
  2. Stir together oats, almonds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, cinnamon, salt and ginger.
  3. Add maple syrup and oil, and spread evenly on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake until golden brown, stirring every 15 minutes for about 40-45 minutes.
  5. Allow to cool completely.
  6. Sprinkle with coconut chips, cranberries and/or raisins (optional)

This granola easily stores in an airtight container for two to three weeks.
