Pefferlaw Creek Farms is a family run maple farm in operation since 2015. Four brothers, John, Ben, Gene and Tony turned a lifelong passion into a profession. After acquiring engineering degrees from Ontario universities and working in their respective fields, three of the brothers have since swapped their hard hats for toques, and have devoted themselves entirely to crafting one of nature’s healthiest sweeteners.
They started with 40 acres of sugar bush on their 200 acre farm. Over the course of seven years, they worked with a number of local landowners, and began tapping in 3 other forests to collect sap. By 2022, their maple operation reached 40,000 taps, until a major storm destroyed one of their biggest forests. The devastating loss motivated the brothers to find more trees, with an ambitious project of recovering the loss, and increasing their maple crop to 50,000 taps in 2024. They’re well on their way of achieving that goal.
For the Tomory brothers, maple syrup is truly a family affair. The sugar shack comes alive, not only with the swell of the evaporator, but also with the buzz of other brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, aunts and uncles, wives, and close friends helping in all the ways they can to ensure smooth operations in the bush and in the barn, and create an unforgettable experience for all visitors during the most exciting months of the year!
