Meaford Maples

Hosted by: Steve and Karen Smith

Meaford Maples is a small, boutique maple syrup operation nestled on the side of Irish Mountain in Meaford, Ontario. After sustaining significant damage to our sugar bush during the March 2025 ice storm, we are thoughtfully rebuilding – tap by tap – guided by patience, care, and a deep respect for the land.

This season, we’re harvesting sap from approximately 300 taps and crafting it into our delicious, pure maple syrup, along with a selection of handcrafted maple treats.

Our maple roots run deep. The Smith family’s maple-making tradition began in the 1930s when Ed Smith and his sons first produced syrup in Perth County – a legacy we’re proud to carry forward today.

We look forward to welcoming visitors during Maple Weekend as we continue this season of renewal and tradition.

Join us for Maple Weekend
April 4 and 5 2026

Visitors are invited to enjoy a self-guided, informal walk-around of a portion of our working sugar bush and sugar house, exploring at their own pace and asking questions along the way. Step inside the sugar house to see how fresh maple sap is transformed into pure maple syrup, then head out into the sugar bush to learn how sap was once collected using buckets and how it now flows through modern tubing systems to storage tanks.

Along the way, you’ll find a selection of antique maple equipment and learn how syrup-making has evolved over generations. There’s plenty of opportunity to talk everything maple—from tapping and boiling to grading and bottling. Guests can sample maple syrup (free), discover their favourite grade, and stock up on maple syrup, candies, and other handcrafted maple treats.

This experience takes place in a working sugar bush and food production facility. The ground is uneven and may be challenging for visitors with mobility issues. As an early-spring outdoor activity, boots and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome outdoors, but not inside the sugar house.

The tour is free to attend, with no tickets or reservations required—visitors are welcome to drop in at any time between 10:00 and 4:00. Cash, debit, and credit are accepted for purchases. As a very popular Maple Weekend stop, expect a lively, friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome.
